Just the FAQs

If you have questions about building a log or timber frame home, you’ve come to the right place. Here are seven of the questions we hear most frequently (along with our answers, of course!).

How much does it cost to build a log home?

This question topped our list because it is the question we field the most from potential clients. It’s also a tricky one to answer because every Ward home–log, timber or hybrid–is unique. Thanks to our fully customizable plans, there can be dozens (hundreds!) of variables from one home to the next.

But here is what you can count on: We offer multiple package options, from our basic “Camp” series cabins to our top-of-the-line “Premier” series homes, to fit most any budget. Whichever log home plan you choose, we will work closely with you to create a home that fits your personal budget.

What is included in the log home package?

While every package can be personalized to suit your needs, a list detailing the standard components of each of Ward kit can be found here. (Materials that are to be furnished separately by the homeowner are also listed.) Still shopping around? This checklist-style comparison guide will help you perform an “apples to apples” package and price comparison with other companies.

My location site isn’t near the Ward facility or a local rep, can I still build a Ward home?

The answer is a resounding “yes!”. We have built cedar log cabins, timber homes and hybrid homes across the world — from Taiwan and the Netherlands to the Dominican Republic and Japan, to name a few. When building remotely, we will utilize whatever available resources you prefer, including phone or video calls and emails, to take your vision from dream to drafting table to delivery day.

How long does it take to build a log home?

As with the price of our homes, this answer varies greatly based on a number of factors, from the complexity of the design to location. Generally, once you have finalized a plan and placed a deposit, the production of your home will be complete within three to four months. From there, your contractor will work with you directly on your construction timeline.

Can you tell me about the process of building a log home?

No matter what type of home you are building with us — a cozy weekend log cabin in the woods or a sprawling lakeside retreat, we will start the process by finding out what you’re looking for in a home. What are the layout and design features you would like to see in your home? (And what do you want to skip?) Once we have your wish list in hand, we will provide a materials price package quote. If you choose to move forward with a deposit, we will complete your construction drawings then head into the production process and, finally, onto the delivery of your materials.

What sets Ward apart from other log and timber home companies?

There are a number of reasons why we rise above the crowd of log and timber home companies, but maybe the most telling is our experience. We have been in the business of building log homes longer than any other company in the U.S. — since 1923, to be exact. (We are 99 and doing fine!) As America's first log home manufacturer, we have had plenty of time to perfect our log home system, making it (we believe) the best there is when it comes to quality, longevity and efficiency.

What is the Ward guarantee?

Every Ward log or timber home comes with a 20-year quality guarantee on all log components that we manufacturer. Additionally, if you experience warranty issues with any of the materials supplied with your log package, we will assist you in finding a resolution with the supplier.
