Galley Kitchens

The Gallery kitchen is probably the most efficient use of a small space with as little as an 8-foot width which allows cabinets and appliances on both sides with a minimum of 48 inches as the "corridor".  This means efficient limited areas without the need to move greater distances from the work centers.  A closed end gallery kitchen usually cuts down on traffic and keeps it out of the work area.

Having both ends open brings in more light and create a feeling of connection to the rest of your home.  You can also include islands which would run parallel to the counters down the center.

Gallery kitchen may be efficient but it also has some drawbacks in the home.  The layout doesn't allow enough area for a dining table and it limits the interaction with guests and family.  If you do put an island in your gallery kitchen they can also be a nuisance in this style because you end up having to walk around the island to get to the other side.  However you can gain more storage and work space.  You just have to decide what works best for your lifestyle.
